Has anyone used the Dual Electronics GPS cradle for the iPhone http://www.gpscradle.dualav.com/ if so please post your experience with it. All thoughts are helpful and welcome.
get one with a better battery, here is what I plan to get in a couple weeks:
Bad Elf GPS Receiver for iPod touch, iPhone, iPad and iPad2
Look it up on Amazon it's there
Just found the battery ratings were better and you can more easily carry it: it bonds with the Bluetooth and will download a map to your device.
Once it's on, your device registers GPS-capable like an iPhone and is better than the iPhone GPS. Don't take my word for it, go read, read up on both and check the reviews. Last I checked they were pretty informative and not the gumchewing eeww-spewing antics of teenage Apple fandom.
I stand corrected: The Dual is the one you want, but the 150 portable not the cradle:

Read the reviews and deice for yourself.
But it's what I described in my last post only I erroneously gave the wrong product. I just bought it for myself.
Wow! thanks so much. I am gathering the difference is the cradle would give me a battery as well? Have you heard of any difference in receivers between using the cradle and the receiver? Again, thanks much, really appreciate the research.
I think the cradle uses your iPod's battery.
This is one reason I went with one having its own battery, plus being compatible with any number of other devices.
It also can be used indoors, if the reviews are to be believed, which is something I have not seen before.
You may want to consider the free mapping software Kobbler I think it is, though it was a pretty quick download so I'm hoping it works offline. I find I can run Bluetooth all day and am fine. It's the iPod wireless that will run your battery down in a few hours.
Gotcha! I'd love to know how accessible that app is with voiceover. Looking forwrad to your thoughts. I usually use either navigon or tomtom.
I will let you know when it gets here. I have Skobbler also which AppleVis says works well, trying to spend what money I have from a recent sale in a reasonable fashion. Much is spoken for by other things so was hoping not to need to buy Navigon if possible.
Got the device yesterday and will do my best to describe it for fellow blind bats on here because it has a few caveats you'll want to be aware of ahead of time.
First as a reminder, I got the 150, the Bluetooth model and not the cradle, because I wanted the unit that would run on its own battery rather than draining my iPod's battery.
What it comes with:
Thanks for the great description. I did order one for a client. The software that you download is this gps software where you can type in an address or just software that gives you gps receiver info? Thanks.s
It's just a status tool. You will use whatever GPS apps you want to use, such as Navigon.
The Sendero app does not download maps so an iPod Touch user outside of a wi fi situation would have trouble.
There is a neat app called Ariadne GPS but again it needs access to a server so it is great for exploration but not on the road usage unless your pod is tethered or you are sure to be in connection with wi fi signals.
